Accountant

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our Finance team as an Accountant.

Major responsibilities include:

• Analyzing and processing data necessary for internal and external financial reporting to federal, state, and local governmental agencies
• Preparing reconciliations and journal entries
• Accurate and timely completion of the month-end closing process
• Identifying and implementing best practices to improve efficiency while continually striving for process improvement
• Other responsibilities include budget development, fiscal monitoring, cost allocations, monthly invoicing, and performing accrual-based accounting activities

The ideal candidate will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 3 - 5 years of accounting experience working with federal, state, and local grants.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, COSO Internal Control Framework, and federal and state financial standards and regulations.
• Proficient in automated accounting systems with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Non-Profit accounting experience is preferred, knowledge of Head Start and/or Federal Grant Accounting is desired.
