Education Coordinator

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis is seeking a qualified individual to work as an Education Coordinator. This position has primary responsibility for oversight and development of systems providing and coordinating child development/educational services for Head Start/Early Head Start children and families. It also has a primary focus on Early Head Start. The position provides technical, training and monitoring supervision over education staff. The position has secondary responsibility for assisting with the assurance and implementation of child care licensing regulations, defined administration, information services, other support services and related planning for the program. This includes ensuring compliance with performance standards and recognized best practice in Head Start. The Education Coordinator is a part of the Head Start/Early Head Start Management Team and works in tandem with other program coordinators and specialists. The Education Coordinator is an integral part of the larger system of services provided by Head Start/Early Head Start.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

  1. Establishes policies and procedures with staff and parents for the child development portion of the program that support the effective implementation of these services in accordance with the program's School Readiness Plan.
  2. Develops a system for the provision of early childhood education services to Head Start/Early Head Start families in cooperation with other social services and child development providers through community partnership agreements.
  3. Plans, implements, and supports learning in the classrooms in conjunction with the child development staff and others.
  4. Makes recommendations to the Vice-President of HS/EHS that contains expansion, implementation and monitoring of early childhood education services.
  5. Develops and implements a plan and system of continuous monitoring and evaluation of activities within the program that is in compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and Other Regulations and any further interpretations by Administration for Children and Families Midwest Regional Hub-Region VII.
  6. Prepares performance and statistical reports utilizing both internal research data and computerized data from ChildPlus on a regular basis for the Vice President's use.
  7. Remains up-to-date on Performance Standards and general knowledge of how the program will implement them and assists with integration of Family Service Workers into the total Head Start program utilizing these standards.
  8. Assists the Vice President in developing and monitoring 5-year plan for the educational needs of the program including human resources, facilities, technology and other support needs of the program.
  9. Conducts monthly documented classroom observations using the classroom assessment tools prescribed by the program.
  10. Develops goals and measurable objectives in areas of responsibility and prepares, trains and implements annual self-assessment of early childhood education services.
  11. Sets priorities and provides leadership and training for the implementation of the education work plan and child development staff.
  12. Establishes community partnerships and resources and makes them available as resources to Head Start/Early Head Start families.
  13. Develops a system utilizing Child Plus, for implementation the tracking of referrals, individual contacts, home visits and follow-ups, and general child development information.
  14. Represents Head Start/Early Head Start on various community committee boards and professional organizations.
  15. Participates in community groups, which will be supportive of program goals and objectives.
  16. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director-Center Operations, ensures that Center Coordinators, teachers and other staff of assigned team are trained to make and document Child Abuse and Neglect Reports.
  17. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Must have knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood education programs; program planning and community resources; knowledge of computer operation and basic office software. Must maintain C.L.A.S.S. reliability and have ITERS and ECERS training.

Must have the ability to relate well and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children, parents and other agencies. Ability to exercise professional judgment in evaluating before making decisions and maintain all information in strict confidence. Ability to comprehend both verbal and written instructions and bring to task completion. Ability to know and implement Head Start Performance Standards and policies of the program. Able to work in a team environment. Transport self to and from, agencies, Head Start/Early Head Start and other locations. Possess valid driver's license and be insurable by the program insurance carrier. Able to work some evenings and weekends.

A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is required. Master's preferred. Must be C.L.A.S.S. reliable within six (6) months of hire. At least one year of experience working as a supervisor or administrator in an Early Childhood Education program. Three years of experience working with disadvantaged, low income clients and the general community desirable.
