Human Resources Generalist

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our Human Resources team as a Human Resources Generalist.

The HR Generalist has the overall responsibility of executing sourcing and recruitment strategies for the Head Start/Early Head Start program, utilizing both traditional methods and innovative, creative approaches to attract local and regional talent. This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

The HR Generalist will:

  • Manage the recruitment lifecycle for the Head Start/Early Head Start program; to include sourcing and job post maintenance, recruiting, interviewing, and assistance with the selection of candidates.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Human Resources and Vice President of Head Start/Early Head Start to create and execute recruitment strategies that build a robust applicant pool for the program.
  • Delivers orientation to new hire orientation, creates and manages all orientation schedules, and onboarding activities.
  • Attend networking events and career fairs as needed.
  • Conduct pre-hire background and reference checks.
  • Enhance recruitment effectiveness and quality by implementing innovative sourcing methods and recruiting techniques.
  • Monitor and assess recruitment and retention strategies for the program.
  • Maintain employee records in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws, regulations, and company policies related to employee relations and workplace safety.
  • Maintain confidentiality of business and personnel information.
  • Assist in the implementation of agency-wide HR strategies that support successful business outcomes.
  • Pulls reporting from the HRIS systems and processes as needed for data requests and ensure the accuracy of HRIS data.
  • Provide support for all areas of Benefits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • The knowledge and abilities listed above are generally gained through a combination of education and experience.
  • A BA / BS in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification is desired or ability to obtain PHR or SHRM professional designation within six months of hire.
  • 3-5 years of HR experience; successful full cycle recruiting experience is a plus.
  • A comprehensive understanding of employment laws, personnel policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, are essential to effectively communicate policies and procedures to employees. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques, along with experience in multi-source recruiting and Applicant Tracking Systems, and HRIS platforms is highly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in influencing and building strong relationships with stakeholders and senior leaders across functions.
