Human Resources Specialist

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our Human Resources team as a Human Resources Specialist.

The HR Specialist has the overall responsibility of implementing sourcing and recruiting plans through local and regional efforts, using traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new, creative recruiting ideas for the Head Start/Early Head Start program.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Build a talent pipeline for the Head Start/Early Head Start program. Activities include screening resumes, attending recruitment fairs, school and/or community-based recruitment events, or other externally focused efforts.
  • Assess and screen candidates for the Head Start/Early Head Start program and administer pre-placement testing.
  • Maintain complete and accurate record-keeping details in compliance with funder requirements.
  • Update information in the applicant tracking systems to maintain compliance and accuracy of metrics.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Human Resources and Vice President of Head Start/Early Head Start to develop sourcing and recruiting strategies to build applicant pipelines supporting the program.
  • Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding activities for new hires.
  • Attend networking events as needed.
  • Monitors recruitment and retention strategies for the program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a similar field of study
  • 3-5 years of successful full-cycle recruiting experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management, follow-through, and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with such laws.
