LIHEAP/LIHWAP Specialist

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for helping others to join our Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP/LIWAP)/ Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) team as a LIHEAP/LIWAP Specialist.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Provide intake, assessments, and customer service for all LIHEAP/LIWAP clients
  • Gather information and documentation required to determine client household eligibility for LIHEAP/LIWAP assistance and non-governmental funding sources.
  • Perform processes with accuracy and adherence to program regulations.
  • Data entry into an established database.
  • Mail, print, copy, scan and fax LIHEAP/LIWAP transmittals on a daily basis.
  • Maintain organized filing system of client files and other necessary documentation
  • Prepare and generate reports according to established deadlines.
  • Provide courteous and friendly customer service.
  • Provide call center support.
  • Assist in program outreach efforts and represents the agency at community events.
  • Establish and maintain LIHEAP/LIHWAP client files per state guidelines and internal procedures.
  • Maintain proper logs of participants' services.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A high school diploma and college course work in social services or related human service field are desirable, an associate's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in customer service and administrative support
  • The ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature
  • The ability to prioritize competing projects with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Pass a criminal background check.
